What We Do

Our work focuses on supporting counsellors, strengthening the profession, and advocating for accessible, high-quality counselling services.  

Registration and Endorsement 

• We manage counsellor registration and endorsement. 
• NZAC provides a robust registration and framework to help ensure counsellors have the high professional standards to protect people seeking counselling. 

• We offer accessible and relevant professional development opportunities which supports counsellors to remain current and competent in their work. 
• We promote and facilitate research to support evidence informed best practice. 

Competent Practice 

• We promote ethical practice through the NZAC Code of Ethics.
• We have a clear and robust complaints process to uphold professional accountability. 

Advocacy 

• We advocate for the counselling profession as a trusted, effective, and increasingly evidence-based option for supporting mental wellbeing, resilience, and meaningful change.
• We advocate for increased recognition and funding for counselling services. 
• We engage with stakeholders, government, and the wider sector on issues affecting counsellors and the communities they serve.
